Love Your Lovers

Sorry about the wait, my laptop has been acting utterly ridiculous the past two days. It's like the power button is sticking and it just shuts right off when ever it pleases. Time to take it in to have a check up i'd say. Anyway, on with the post!

So who doesn't enjoy having flowers given to them?? Whether it's a single wild daisy with the roots and dirt still attached or an expensive bouquet of red roses it's always such a nice gesture of appreciation. I am such a romantic at heart and any token of kindness or love always makes my heart flutter, but in reality I would totally prefer the daisy over all the roses any day. Besides the fact that daisies are my favorite flower, it just seems like the simple gestures are the ones that mean the most. Like hugs :)

After a chat with a good friend of mine yesterday regarding the special holidays of the year, it got me thinking about how silly it is that some people actually need a special event in order to show their loved ones that small or grand act of appreciation. Especially with the upcoming, blindingly expensive holiday we all know as Valentine's Day it is insane how much people dish out due to obligation or as a way of paying back all that love in one gift instead of spreading out the love though-out the year!

Now i'm not saying everyone needs to be out buying bunches of flowers, caramel filled chocolates or kinky sex toys teddy bears every damn day (because then you'd just be buying into these Hallmark holidays everyday of the year) but there is no crime in showing your lady or fellow that they're on your mind after you get home from a long days working or before shutting your eyes to go sleep by giving them some good old free loving. Now do what ever feels right but what i'm taking about is more like a free hug ha ha. I'm such a sucker for hugs, if a guy can give a good bear-type hug that isn't too tight but still feels like he could lift you up off your feet then he's a keeper in my books for sure! So ladies and gents, show your loves you care, and don't wait until Valentine's Day to do it!

On a slightly different note, I gave myself a new flowery gift this past weekend! I decided it was high time to re-vamp this broken, cheap and very sad mirror I had hanging out in my bedroom. After a quick trip to the glorious Dollarama down the street I was the proud owner of many bunches of pretty fake flowers and a cheap hot glue gun to boot!

These are my other loved flowers, I actually have a tattoo of them on my side :)
This project was really quite easy. I just pulled off all the flowers and leaves from the stems because tying to cut them off was a pain. It ended up working better when I pulled them off because there was no stem to glue around, just a flat bottom. Then I piled all the flowers into their colors and was ready to go!

Purple (even though they look blue), Yellow & two types of Pink flowers
Since I have dedicated this month to Fighting Breast Cancer, I realllllly wanted to do the entire mirror in pink flowers, but since there were only a few nice looking bunches left I had to improvise a bit with the colors and since it looks and feel like Spring time in Winnipeg lately, I decided why not make it in fresh spring time colors? My roommate said it reminded her of Easter haha which is cool too since my Birthday is in March :)

The frame from around my mirror had actually broken right off so before I started applying the flowers I glued and taped the long pieces from the frame into the back of the mirror to give it support and to stop it from bending inward while leaned up against the wall. Although I did really love it when it was bendy ha ha, it would make me appear to much taller and thinner whenever I looked at myself in it!

So now that all the flowers are ready to go and my glue gun was nice and hot all I did was start at the top and glue one flower on a time, making sure each bloom had leaves. I tried to make it as randomized as possible but with only three colors I could only mix it up so much.

It really only took me about an hour from start to finish, making sure I took time out to grab some ice after continually burning my poor fingers with the glue. That shits hot as hell, especially when it gets stuck on top of your nail!! Ouch!!

TA-DA!! The finished product! This photo shows the colors better then the others and the actual length of the mirror. I should have counted how many bunches I used but I do know that it cost me $15 for the flowers, some being $1.00 each and other a whopping $1.25 per stem and I used all except three flowers because they were kind of falling apart and weren't very pretty.

There you have it, my first larger craft project of the month, hope someone else things it's as cute as I do! :)
