For the Love of All Things Easter

For the love of all things pastel & made of chocolate, Happy Easter folks!

This weekend has been somewhat of a bust for me, a few heart aches and stressful situations but I cannot truly complain due to the fact that the first half of my week was filled with a lethal amount of happy. So here's what's up:

Monday I FINALLY found out that in fact, YES, I have been offically accepted into the school of my dreams, a.k.a Complections College of Makeup Art and Design in Toronto, ON!!! Thank goodness, I was really starting to get worried I wouldnt get in and then i'd be completely and utterly lost as to what my plan B would be. I was also lucky enough to find takers for my apartment come May so now I no longer need to worry abou subleting and all that jazz!

Tuesday I recieved a call stating that one of my mothers investment accounts had not been dealt with.. after almost 12 years that seems a bit strange to me, but regarless I now have extra cash flowing my way which is perfect since Complections is not a cheap school to attend.

Wednesday I went for wonderful summertime pedi's with my lovely pal Denae. The only downside to the fresh coat of paint is that it glows while i'm at work.. lol it reminds of monster teeth!

Thursday I had an early start but was still a very enjoyable day :) I had a shopping date with my co-worker so we could pick out semi-matching outfits for the Easter themed weekend. It was a first for both of us to have the staff at the mall say "Good Morning" to us as we walked in haha. We looked a bit hardcare showing up as soon as the mall opened. With so many optons we finally ended up with pink skirts and cute white and pink bunny ears for $4.00! Can't go wrong with that. We even had tiny cotton tails and pink sparkly bow ties that were more of a pain in the butt then anything. So itchy and constricting. Needless to say our tips were pretty good that night! :)
Things kind of went down hill from then on. I won't go into detail as I would hate to expand on this pity party i've thrown myself. I guess I will admit to one thing i'd really like to change about myself. I wish it was easier for me to focus more on what is best for me rather than everyone else around me. I've been told on a multitude of occasions that I am a "people pleaser", a term that I cannot aruge with, and at times it works to my benefit, but for the sake of my own happiness I need to start putting myself first once in a while. Not in an arrogent way, just enough to do what I need to do. Does that make sense? I'm still confused about it all so I apologise for my rambles.

With the weather and my mood in such a gloomy state I thought it best that I attempt to cheer myself and my apartment up with a colorful, fragrent Easter craft!! Cute bunnies also help to cheer me up haha my own little easter bunny Button, so cheesy but so cute.

Time for the craft. I saw this idea on Pinterest and knew that I had to test it out. There's how it goes:

Things you'll need:

  1. Two glass containers, one smaller then the other. **The closer they are in size the less eggs you'll need to fill it up!**
  2. Decorative easter things to use as a filler around the bottom. I used Hersey's Eggies since they were cheaper and yummy. I also picked up a package of pink basket stuffer to use as my first layer to take up even more space!
  3. Pretty ribbon to use as a finishing touch
  4. Flowers!! :)

Sorry the photos are a bit busy but you get the main idea. Also, don't be afraid to try out other ideas such as using different shaped containers, or other fillers. There are tons of options out there, be creative!

I made sure to take photos at each step to help maybe make this more interested haha

Step 1:

To help secure the container and prevent slidding I squished two strips of sticky tack onto bottom of the smaller container.

Step 2:

I then placed the smaller container into the larger one, making sure to place it in the middle and pressed down firmly. My inner container was about an inch taller then the outer one, I didnt' like how it looked in the end but after adding the ribbon it still turned out alright. I would suggest getting the same height if possible. Although this is nice since the water will have little to no chance of spilling into the eggs!

Step 3:

Next I added a small layer of basket stuff to help take up a bit more space. I used a spoon to smush it down to the bottom

Step 4:

Add the eggs (or any other filler idea!) I did see another version on Pinterest where they added Peeps instead of the chocolate eggs. So cute!

Step 5:

Add the flower food junk and water. BE SURE NOT TO SPILL ANY WATER IN THE EGGS!!

Step 6:

Add the flowers. Now i'm no florist but from what i've gathered looking at other floral arrangments you want to start with the flower you have the most of (excluding the greenery). First was the light purple dasies (which are my favorite, especially the wild white ones that grow in ditches!) Then I went ahead and added in the rest.

Step 7:

Add in all the fancy extras starting with the greenery, then anything extra special you can think of. I found these really neat jeweled decorations at the dollar store that I decided would possibly look cute.

Step 8:

Adding the finishing touches!
I chose a light pink, 1inch thick, wire ribbon that I also found at the Dollaar store. I attempted to tie it into a fancy bow but now that i'm taking a second look at it i'm going to probably try it out again. Youtube is aweome for quick tutorials on how to tie fancy bows if yours looks as messy as mine haha!

And you're done!! Bravo on your beautifully created Easter inspired center-piece. I plan on taking mine to Dauphin tomorrow as a gift to my aunty for cooking me and my family what's going to be (and always is) a delicious Easter supper! Yumm yumm I can't wait!

Well I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you follow me on pinterest I tend to continuously pin neat little DIY crafts and projects along with many other interests I have including clothes, jewelry, makup and decorating. Hope you all have a very Happy Easter!

Photo I took while waiting for my photos to upload :) turned out not too bad considing it was taken with an iphone.
P.S. One more thing I forgot to add!

While I was bargin hunting at the mall for my flower arrangment, I stumbled upon an awesome 2 for $25 triple wick candle sale at Bath&Body Works! I picked up the pinapple and peach bellini candles and I must admit the peach is by far the most amazing candle i've ever bought. I lit it before diving into this new blog post and now my entire apartment smells amazing! There were a few other sents but the lady did mention that the peach is the best selling and goes very quickly so if your interested get down there quick!

Happy April Fool's Day!

Some of you who know me personally should already be aware that I tend to find myself in sticky situations... but regardless they usually turn out to be pretty entertaining stories. So here's one for the books:

One year ago I met a stranger who's name I'm not willing to disclose just in case he actually reads my blog, (I wouldn't want him to get freaked out) so let's call this stranger... A.

As I recall it was a Saturday night, just the same as this year thanks to it being  Leap Year, when a group of lovely ladies decided it would be a perfect night for a drink or two... or three. With intentions of coming home at a decent hour on relatively steady legs we set off for what was then known as Rockbar. Being the free soul that I believe I am, I chose to go completely commando.. a detail I maybe should keep to myself but it is much too liberating for me to leave out.

I'm the one in the red :)
I'm not sure how long it was until I spotted the group of guys, one of which had one a particularly tight fitted t-shirt on with awful jeans and a toque... as well as both arms covered in tattoos. The idea of him was pretty much the cherry on top of my already rebellious night. The events of this night are blurry at best but I do recall one of his... shorter... pals asking me to dance multiple times to which after many turn-downs I finally told him (in the politest way possible) that I did not want to dance with him at all... but rather I wanted to dance with his friend... A.

I don't think A and I ever actually made it to the dance floor but I do know we had some pretty decent conversation out on the patio. At the end of the night I was invited back to A's friends place, little did I know it was so far from where we were/where I lived. Half way through the 45ish minute taxi ride I started getting a little nervous, especially after sobering up enough to realize that I was the only chick in a car full of dudes that I had no idea who they were or where we were going. Slightly stupid on my part but an adventure none the less.

We pulled up to this gigantic house. I remember being in awe of how beautiful and grand it was. I think it was A that gave me a short tour of the inside, favorite part was one of the closet's being the same size (if not bigger) as my dorm room back at the university. From here on out the memories seem to get a wee bit more blurry. There was a hot tub at some point and beers and god only knows what else!

The first 10 seconds after waking up was one feeling I'll never forget. The room was so bright, and all the sheets and walls were white, it was blinding. Then rolling over to find a very inked up arm under my head was another one of those.. o-m-f-g... moments. Carefully looking around for my belongings and noticing a chunk of hair extensions sprawled out on the bed was very embarrassing... ha ha to this day I still don't know if A remembers seeing that... poor guy... I would have been totally terrified if some chicks hair started falling out in huge pieces... eek!

Next was the sheer panic of not knowing what time it was/where I was/who I was with... after laying there silently for a few minutes, waiting for the pieces of the night to fall back into my memory (and for the room to stop spinning) A woke up and things started to make more sense. Except for the fact that my cellphone, wallet containing my building keys, money, debit card, license and camera was no where to be found. Being the gentleman that A is, he helped me look eeeeverywhere for that damn wallet. Sadly nothing could be found.

A and his friend drove me back across the city so I could complete my "walk of shame" very grandly as I was locked out of my dorm building for a solid 15 minutes  in the same dress I had been wearing the night prior, no shoes on, crazy hair, and makeup everywhere. I think I was still in shock at this moment because I remember telling a few friends on my floor about my crazy night and didn't seem too worried about losing my things... until later that day.

I called every single cab company I could think of in search for my damn things. I had A's number to check back to see if anything had turned up. It is such a pain to replace all those things, all the lines, fees and waiting. Ugh. But in the end totally worth it.

A ended up texting me later that month and eventually come up to The Pas for a few visits that summer. We both kind of forgot when we started dating, so we picked a day... sometime in June I believe (I'm so bad for remember those kinds of things).

It's so funny how life works out :)
So to finish up the story... a few months ago I was making my way back from Starbucks in Osborne and rather then walking 15 minutes in the freezing cold I decided I'd just hop into a cab instead. There was one parked at the McDonald's on break, hamburger in hand, who agreed to drop me off with no hesitation. After hopping in the back I noticed he was really starring at me in the review mirror which made me a wee bit nervous... you just never know with Winnipeg.

Then he asked if my name was Sydney and I almost lost my shit. I thought for sure I was going to get robbed or shot or something bad. I didn't reply and reached for the door handle when he asked if I had lost a cellphone about a year ago. I couldn't even think with the horror movie of what could happen playing in my mind. He then asked if I had also lost a wallet with a couple things inside. It clicked then that why yes... yes indeed I did lose my wallet that crazy night last April Fools Day... ah ha!

He told me that he had tried numerous times to contact me but for some reason we never connected until that random moment when I interrupted his supper because I was too lazy to walk 15 more minutes in the cold to my apartment building.

After dropping me off at my apartment he said he would be back in 15 minutes with my things and to watch for him. I wasn't fully confident that he would actually return but to no avail he did. With almost all of my missing belongings too! (even the money that was left in it!) The only thing that was missing was my new camera and cellphone case. I don't blame him though. I would have sold/kept that camera too it was a nice one. Although, he did creepily assure me that he had saved all my photos on his computer and that he could drop those off on a flashdrive if i wanted... ahh... weird... no thanks.

Some call it luck, others call it karma, I just think its insane that I didn't buy a lottery ticket that night haha!

I wish my April Fool's Day this year was as exciting as it was last year, but instead I worked and then camped out in the library computer lab. Fun fun fun! I hope you all have a great day full of pranks and schemes :)
